STEAM: (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) has the power to change student’s lives. With the work of the Moody Innovation Institute, these subjects will be better integrated to enhance learning by allowing students to solve complex real world problems from a variety of perspectives.

In the classroom

HPISD's STEAM initiative is gaining momentum, thanks to the work of 26 pilot teachers who are creating meaningful connections for students. Teachers at every campus and almost every grade level have been piloting STEAM lessons this school year. STEAM teachers foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, design collaborative engaging lesson plans and ultimately offer professional-level, hands-on experiences for students. HPISD's STEAM initiative is supported by a $5.8 million grant from the Moody Foundation.

"We have been very pleased with the early impact of our STEAM program on students and teachers across the district," Executive Director of the Moody Innovation Institute Dr. Geoffrey Orsak said. "I am particularly excited that next year we will double the number of teachers who will be using STEAM concepts in their classrooms."
